Pick a number from the list and I'll answer it in the comments.

Cut for length. )
[livejournal.com profile] sparkindarkness just posted an entry regarding the fetishization of gay men, especially that of a few well-known actors who've come out recently.  He also made me aware of this disgusting "You Know You're Addicted To Slash" meme, upon which I will now comment:

Cut for length and homophobia. )

Some of you might think I'm being hypocritical here because I both read and write slash (and I'll admit, the majority of what I read online is slash).

However.

When I write it, I try to treat the characters with respect, not as poseable fuck dolls.  And when I'm reading it, I stay away from authors who write nothing but stereotypes.  It's a fine line, perhaps, which is why I'm trying to stay on the correct side of it and not forget that I'm reading about people.  Fictional people, yes, but still - characterization is important.  Treating the subject matter with respect is important.  More than important - respect for what one is reading and writing is just basic human decency.

One final word on fetishization.  I'm a bisexual woman.  Men are very "accepting" of me and my sexuality.  Because they think it's "hot".  They could care less about me or any woman I might have sex with as people - all they care about is being allowed to watch.

If you care about the rights of BGLTQP people even when they aren't providing you with entertainment, you're someone I'd like to know and be around.  However, if you only think of us in terms of the entertainment we can provide to you - fuck off.

It's inevitable: as we read LJs, we create mental pictures of each other. Post this on your journal to find out who/what your friends imagine you as!

Anyone who actually knows what I look like is automatically disqualified from answering.  Also, no going to my userpics - that's cheating!

ETA: I retook this on December 2, 2012 and got the exact same result.  Apparently I'm exactly as evil as I was the first time.  Interesting.
Fuck it, I just think it's cool and wanted to use it for something, ;).

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Neutral. Not Northern, Southern, or Western, just American. Your national American identity is more important to you than your local identity, because you don't really have a local identity to begin with.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

I've known this for years, actually, but these are fun anyway, :).
Ganked from a couple of different places...

I want all of my online friends to comment about how you met me, but I want you to LIEJUST MAKE STUFF UP.  After you comment, post this to your journal so that I can do the same, :).

ETA: D'oh!  The red represents all the states I've been to, :).
Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] ravenja1170  who snagged it from [livejournal.com profile] jooles34 and [info]alt_universe_me* who snagged it from [info]_lullabelle_* :).

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes office supplies." I'd love it if every single person who's friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer.  (I was going to put a disclaimer here about not answering a question if I didn't want to, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I'll answer any question that anyone asks, I'll simply reserve the right to answer it privately, :)).

Anything you've ever wanted to know about me, now's your chance to ask.  I'm not asking for the same in return, however, just tell me a tiny bit of trivia about you, :).

Thanks in advance, :).

I'm also not friends-locking this, so if you read my journal and you want to know something, go ahead and ask, :).  All I ask is that you tell me something about yourself in return, :).
For no good reason, I'm starting a meme.  This has almost definitely been thought of before by someone else, but I haven't seen it before, so it's new to me.  So there.

What are your ten favorite lines/exchanges from film and movies?  In my case, all of these made me laugh, so make of that what you will.

In no particular order, mine are:

Warnings for language, one quote that could possibly trigger and possible spoilers for the movies/shows listed in the tags. )
Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] rm, though I deleted one sentence, paraphrased another and added one more, :).

So there's an LJ meme about your holiday wishlist.

The wishes can be anything from small and with no obvious monetary value to unlikely and/or extravagant. The idea is that I post mine and you post yours, and if people are inclined some of those wishes may just come true. For example, if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you’re never going to use, that might just be the thing that could make someone else's holiday.

Anyway this is an entirely guilt/obligation-free/why-not sort of thing.  Just a bit of whimsy, and I do not expect nor require anyone to participate, :).

If you have already or do post one of these in the future, please comment with a link so that everyone can spread the word around.  Remember: one person's trash is another person's treasure, :).

Cut for my list, an incredibly vague trigger and my thoughts on this time of year, :). Happy Holidays! :) )

I hope that everyone is safe and happy for this season and beyond and wish you all Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards Everyone, :).

Thank you all for being my friends, :)!
Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last week I set [livejournal.com profile] fd_midori's puppy on fire (-66 points). In July I pulled over and changed [livejournal.com profile] littlebirdtold's flat tire (15 points). In June I turned [livejournal.com profile] storm88000 in for running naked in the mall (3 points). In January I helped [livejournal.com profile] sylvadin hide a body (-173 points). In November I put gum in [livejournal.com profile] kadymae's hair (-12 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-233 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
teleen-fiction

Also, I refreshed this until it said what I wanted. So there. ;)

FYI: One of the options is committing genocide, so do this meme at your own risk.
So I finally changed my default userpic.  It came about because of a meme on facebook to change one's profile picture to a cartoon from childhood in the name of 'abuse survivors'.

Cut for abuse triggers and my further thoughts on the subject of changing a profile picture to change the world. )

Memes don't change the world.  People do.

Book Meme

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] hawk_soaring.  When I first looked it over, I thought I'd only read 14.  Turns out it was slightly more than that, especially if you count the ones I've read excepts of or started and not finished, :).  ETA - Read 20.  Started or read excerpts of 24.  Assuming I know how to count, :).  I've also made more notes, :).

Have you read more than 6 of these books? The BBC believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books listed here...

Instructions: Copy/paste this. Bold those books you've read in their entirety, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish or read an excerpt.
Cut for length. )

Not crediting where I got this because I've seen it more than one place.   Also, since some of this commentary is negative, I don't want to single anyone out, as it's not directed at anyone who's posted this.  If it's in italics, it's mine.

Obituary printed in the London Times - Interesting and sadly rather true.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend,Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Cut for length and references to child rape. )

I have a problem with seeing this passed around without looking at deeper contexts and situations.  Not everything is so black-and-white as this would have you believe.  I know that all of you know that (at least I hope you do), but I really felt as though it should be examined before I continued passing it around.
It's very easy to say that these things are common sense and some of them still are, but I just didn't feel as though I could allow some of the sweeping generalizations found in here to pass without comment.

To those who have posted it recently, please don't think that this is in any way an attack on you personally for having posted it.  It's not meant as one, and if you feel that it is, then I sincerely
apologize.

ETA: As [livejournal.com profile] alt_universe_me just pointed out, why does Common Sense have to be male?  It's a gender-neutral concept - why did there have to be male pronouns to denote it?  I realize it was an obituary and so the person writing it might have felt the need to anthropomorphize it a bit, but even so - sexist language is sexist.

Could have been worse.  The object to my right is my sewing box and while it's heavy, it's not as easy to wield as the chair...

Saw this on [livejournal.com profile] wendymr's journal and it just looked cool, so I ganked.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Bonus points to those who pick fics that are less than 500 words, as you'll get the entire process of the fic, :).    Actually, pick anything - this just sounds cool and since it might even get my creative juices flowing, if you like my writing and want to see more, have at!

If you missed this, I'm still taking prompts, :).

I've published nine ficlets so far (and have about five more oustanding), but I'm still having fun and willing to do more! :)  Still, I'm thinking that this will be the last time I do an update like this, so if you were shy about asking before, now's your chance, :)!

If you want to participate, please just read the rules first and keep in mind that it will probably be a little while before you see your ficlet.

Then again, if it's an 'easy' prompt, you might see it sooner, ;).  Easy is defined as something that my muse likes, so there's no way to know in advance if yours is easy or difficult, :).

In any case, have fun and happy reading! :)
