So I'm over at [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political, reading this post with live election results, and my brain breaks.

It's broken forever, poppets.  When a proposition in MO TO BAN  FUCKING PUPPY MILLS can't pass, my faith in the humanity of my fellow man in this country has taken a sharp dive straight into the Grand Canyon.

Not to mention that my Governor, Ted Strickland, lost.  Meaning the my vote, DIDN'T FUCKING COUNT.  And don't give me some shit about how every vote counts.  If he lost by one vote or one million, he still fucking lost, making my state even more fucked up than it was before.

The only thing that gives me any shred of hope is that politicians fucking suck at doing anything. Oh, wait - that's DEMOCRATS.

Republicans are fucking aces at getting shit done.  Too bad it's mostly racist, homophobic, pro-rich, anti-environment pro-corporate shit.

Oh, and if you voted Republican and you make less than $250,000 a year?  Congratulations, you've voted against your own self-interest and in favor of the party that wants to turn back the clock to the 1950's (except, y'know, the part where the rich paid 90% taxes).

Fuck you, U.S.  Fuck you and the fail!boat you've decided to sail on.
Yeah, remember Carl Paladino?  He lost his bid for Governor of New York.  As Jon Stewart put it, "He campaigned really hard not to be Governor."

Yeah, in his concession speech, he "promised at the New York Republican Convention to ``clean out Albany with a baseball bat.''

This guy can't even lose with dignity.  At least I can take some comfort in that the ones who were the most made of crazy didn't seem to get in.

Do me a favor, don't remind me of the ones I'm forgetting, kthanx?

A Gay Kissing Flashmob Is To Greet The Pope In Barcelona on November 7.

Here's the facebook page.

This is made of so much win, I can't even begin to express it.  I'm smiling hugely as I type this and I hope that the Pope is gravely uncomfortable as he lands in Spain.

To those who think that I'm being disrespectful to the Pope - he's never done anything to earn my respect.  EVER.  Wearing a funny hat and having an invisible friend don't make you worthy of my respect.  Having the largest porn collection in the world (trufax from the Vatican), that's at least interesting, but still not worthy of my respect.

To those who think that my comment about wanting to watch is crass, well, let me up the ante - I would literally PAY to watch this, if only for the Pope's reaction.  Besides, watching people kiss is fun!  Think about it - when you see a couple kissing, don't you always want to look?  I do.  It's human nature.  We look, then we look away to respect their privacy, then we peek.  But this is a whole PROTEST that's nothing but people kissing - what could be better than that?

I like this movie.  I like it a lot.  I know it has issues, which I will address, but I like it.  And my reasons for liking it far outweigh the problems it has.

Cut for length and non-graphic spoilers of the movie that may be triggery. )
To Wong Foo is a fairy tale (pun NOT intended).  While it does shine a light on the issues that face those who are different in our society, that light isn't harsh.  To me, it's more... this is the way the world almost is.  And despite what we see on TV every day, humanity is basically decent.

It's a positive movie, not just gay-positive, but human-positive.  And to those who say it's just silly fluff with no redeeming social value, I say - so what?  It's a movie where drag queens are portrayed as human beings and not characitures and for that alone, I love it.  Before anyone says it, some of their behavior is stereotypical, but they're still shown as humans that have human problems, not freaks with freak problems.  This is a movie that accepts who and what it is and is happy with that.

I like that.
