On Comments, Part 2

I'm always happy to get them, but for me it's always a surprise that someone took the time and every now and then I'll get, "I'm sorry I haven't commented before now-" Or they'll even tell me that something was going on in real life, justifying their oversight. All I can say to that is - it's okay. Really, it is. I appreciate that you're taking the time out of your day to let me know that you liked something I wrote (or, more rarely, that you hated something I wrote) or that it made you happy or sad or a combination of the two, but I want you all to know that it's okay if you don't comment.
That's not to say that I don't enjoy getting comments - it makes my day to get them, every time - but I don't CRAVE them the way that some authors seem to, to the point where I see things like, 'Feedback is appreciated. Appreciated like air.'
I'm not going to turn blue and die if you don't comment on what I've written. Again, I like seeing comments and knowing what people think, but for me it's almost like... A casual acquaintance buying you a present out of the blue. It's wonderful to get it, but you certainly don't expect it to happen, :).
As I write this I do hope that those who consistently comment on my stories don't take offense - your kind words DO encourage me to keep writing and work to overcome my writer's block - but for all of you who only lurk and NEVER comment, it's okay. I'm not hurt or offended or (FSM forbid!) angry about it. I can look at my stats and see how many people look at my page, but since I don't use 'My Guests', I have no idea who any of you who look and don't comment are, so you don't need to feel bad about it.
I promise, :).
And if and when you ever do decide to de-lurk and comment, I'll take it for the sweet gift of a few moments of your time that it is and appreciate every word that you took the time to write, because it was very nice for you to do so, but I'll never be hurt or upset if you just haven't had a chance to do so before then.
I write because I enjoy it and I post what I write because I think that others might enjoy it too, but none of you owe me ANYTHING. Not feedback, not concrit, not praise, not ANYTHING.
Thank you for reading what I write, regardless of if you ever let me know you're doing so or not, I truly appreciate it, mostly because it's always rather a shock to me that anyone would want to read what I write.

Date: 2010-09-23 05:28 pm (UTC)I must admit I do love to get comments - but I never beg for them (much) ... but I know what you mean ... it's like I'm grateful for being nommed for COT awards, but I am not going to prompt folk to vote for me ...

Date: 2010-09-23 08:11 pm (UTC)I was grateful to be nominated as well, but I was a bit passive-aggressive on my prompting, lol. I thanked everyone for nominating me in a post weeks ago and put a link to the COT site at the bottom of my new chapters of TPS, :). That's as far as I'm going, though.

Date: 2010-09-25 11:56 pm (UTC)Watched a bit of Serenity, but Joss is sounding too much like RTD's Holy Grail for em to waste my time.
I'm still trying to get up to speed on Highlander, though I can unequivocally state that Peter Wingfield went from pretty boy to seriously impressive since I sat at a table drinking with him, lol

Date: 2010-09-25 11:59 pm (UTC)Firefly is teh shit, seriously. It makes everything RTD has ever done look like low-level purile crap.
Lucky girl! :)

Date: 2010-09-26 12:37 am (UTC)Josh Whedon seems to take delight in blowing up his characters so no, I'll take a pass

Date: 2010-09-26 03:28 pm (UTC)Re. Joss - I can't argue with you there, but seriously - Firefly is still worth it, :).
