Lol! When people say to me, "The world is ending [insert date here]," I smile and say, in a very Snape-like, smirking voice, "Oh, honey, don't you know? The world is already ending. Just look around you."
This makes them deeply uncomfortable, and I have to admit, it satisfies the angel of my darker nature. Probably, it means that on some level, I'm a bad person. ;-)
Personally, having read a translation of the Mayan prophecies (those oft-misinterpreted "predictions" that the world will end on 21 December 2012), it pisses me off that a lot of different groups of people are propagating fear for the purpose of conversion. The Mayans are being misused terribly for the power-hunger of many, many people and at the expense of peace of mind.
That doesn't mean I don't think we're in the running for big changes, but when *hasn't* civilization suffered rise and decline, and when hasn't change engendered destruction as well as new growth? It's a law of physics! Unfortunately, the rational approach is pretty soundly drowned out at the moment by hysteria, fear, and mind-control tactics.
