More On Congresswoman Gifford

It looks like the Congresswoman will survive, but six other people, including a NINE-YEAR-OLD GIRL aren't so lucky.
The gunman has been identified. As with the VA Tech gunman, I will not publish his name because I personally don't want to remember it. However, someone has put together some of his crazed ramblings and from reading them I have to say, he was in desperate need of mental health services of some sort. I also don't think that one can ascribe political leanings to him based upon reading what he's written.
However.
Sarah Palin painted crosshairs on Congresswoman Gifford's district, which is the sort of thing that attracts dangerous, unstable people and gives them a 'reason' (however tenuous) to do shit like this.
Sarah Palin isn't directly responsible, but I'm really hoping that the families of those who were killed take her for all she's worth in Civil Court. It's time to start holding public figures responsible for when they say and do things that are obvious incitements to violence and violence happens.
Before anyone starts screaming "First Amendment", I have to say that I'm also in favor of holding NAMBLA civilly responsible for the literature they provide to members that teaches them how to better seduce children when those members use that literature to hurt others. The First Amendment shouldn't protect people who incite others to harm innocent people, at least not from CIVIL liability. We might not be able to put people in jail for what they say, but I see nothing wrong with bankrupting them when there words and actions cause this kind of fuckery. And yes, I KNOW it's a slippery slope that's difficult to enforce - allow me my brief revenge fantasy, will you?
Also, please spread the word - Keith Olbermann is doing a special edition of Countdown on MSNBC at 8PM EST tonight. You'll have to manually record it, as "Lock Up" is what's showing in the listing.
