Srsly?

Unborn Child To 'Testify' On Ohio Abortion Bill

An aide to committee Chairman Lynn Wachtmann said a pregnant woman will be brought before the committee and an ultrasound image of her uterus will be projected onto a screen. The heartbeat of the fetus will be visible in color.

This is the dumbest thing I've seen in the last three days, and as most of you know, I've seen some incredibly stupid shit in the last three days.

Fuck you, Ohio.  And fuck the stupid asshats in the Committee for letting this shit go forward.

Neigh.

I still can't get over the amount of stupid/fail in this >< :(

[identity profile] eve-from-oz.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
And the irony of the fact I was reading an article in today's local paper about how great feminism is with the giving women access to legal abortion and reproductive health care really just compounded the hurt ><

I await Grizzly Fetus' analysis of this. It should be awesome.

Grizzly Fetus invades Tiger Beatdown (Sady Doyle's blog) semi-regularly.

Grizzly Fetus on Twitter.

Ah, I'd never seen that before. Pretty cool, :).

Thanks for the links, :).

No problem.

Grizzly Fetus did pick it up (I tweeted it) and Kate Harding mentioned it, too.

And here in the UK, everyone's looking askance at the new guidelines which say that doctors should advise women thinking about a termination that it's better for their health than going to term.

I think we might be overcompensating.

[identity profile] teleens-journal.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about that, since from a medical standpoint, it's true. More women die from childbirth than abortions by a country mile.

However, I get what you're saying and it's a fine line to walk, :(.

[identity profile] fiwen1010.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that phrasing it as "the physical and mental health risks from abortion are low" is fine, whereas saying "you'll be healthier if you have a termination" to a young woman who's undecided has a much higher chance of making her resentful about her decision later on.

This makes no sense at all - what does this tell people that we don't already know? That phoetus have a heartbeat? Yeah, know that and can be told that./ What is the point of this?

[identity profile] teleens-journal.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a complete sympathy ploy, nothing more or less than that. They want it to look more "alive". Never mind that it resembles a tadpole more than a human at that point; they want to remind everyone there that it has the potential to get bigger and possibly become a human.

It's pure showmanship, nothing more.

Oh lord, will wonders and idiocy never cease. Fetus not talking. Fetus draining vital nutrients and has a beating heart. That's what fetus is doing. Why must we be subjected to daily bullshit. As if Charlie Sheen isn't enough of an embarrassment, now we have to put up with this. It's at times like these that I fear for my life. Because the Right is sending a message and that message is, 'We're a bunch of crazy fuckin' loons who have nothing better to do with our time than to set about systematically destroying our country while making ourselves richer.' (Okay, bunch of generalizations there but I believe them to be true.)

[identity profile] teleens-journal.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you completely (somewhere, pigs are flying, ;)).

[identity profile] slashmarks.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
What the.. I don't even get this. I mean, okay, it has a heartbeat. So do chickens. So do cows. So do rodents. Unless every person who supports this is a stric vegetarian who doesn't use rat traps or wear fur, their logic isn't even internally consistent.

[identity profile] teleens-journal.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

Great mind think alike! I had this exact thought earlier today, but then I realized that

a) these people are pro-death penalty and anti-welfare (i.e., anti-taking care of the kid after it's born).

b) they don't see the inherent difference because it's a human life.

Yeah, my bullshit-o-meter is ringing pretty loudly, but I'm sure that this is where they're coming from, sadly, :(.

[identity profile] slashmarks.livejournal.com 2011-03-02 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I can sort of see the pro-death penalty angle, even if I don't agree wtih it, but anti-welfare? Bwuh?

[identity profile] teleens-journal.livejournal.com 2011-03-02 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly, :(.

[identity profile] darth-eldritch.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Even cockroaches and worms have heartbeats. Good god let's not kill them, because that would be murder.

Sometimes I wish idiocy of this magnatude could be an arrestable charge.

There ought to be a law...
