Ku Klux Klan Plans Rally To Support Anti-Gay Counseling Student.

I shouldn't be laughing, but seriously?  I have to wonder if the fact that the KKK is holding a rally in her honor might not be enough to show this young woman that her path is not the right one.  

If the KKK held a rally in my honor I'd be out in front of it with a change of my entire belief structure faster than you can say "Gay Marriage"!

If this doesn't cause her to seriously re-examine her life and the choices she's made therein, I weep for her future and the future of all those like her.

ETA: Someone on facebook pointed out that she should see it as a 'sign'...

This is probably incredibly naive of me but I had no idea the KKK still *existed* (possibly because I only heard about it in High School history classes)

But agreed being supported by them would make me go "wait what?!" - but who knows howsomeone who is anti-gay and wants to be a counselor in a society where this could be an issue people want (supportive!) counseling about thinks :S

Ok, while I 120% disagree with the woman's pov and I agree with the college completely that her position on homosexuality (and presumably bisexuality) is incompatible with the standards of her chosen profession as a counsellor (and yay them for stating that), I completely disagree with the way it sounds like they attempted to change her beliefs. Her beliefs may be wrong but she is entitled to them as long as she doesn't try to force them on others. So, the college shouldn't have tried to 're-educate' her with the diversity & sensitivity training etc, they should have simply told her that her views were not acceptable for her chosen course of study. The re-education thing is no more gonna work to change her from anti-gay to pro-gay than it would be to turn someone who is pro-gay to anti-gay so giving her the option of going on the courses etc or leave wouldn't work (let's face it, she'd just pretend to have become all enlightened).

I agree with you though, when the KKK is holding a protest on your behalf, it's definitely time to examine your beliefs a little more closely.

A counsellor with those beliefs, who seems incapable of separating them from her professional career, could be incredibly damaging since she'd be dealing with people who are already in a vulnerable position.
