DADT Is Back

It's not entirely a surprise, but the dishonor that this shows to our men and women in uniform is staggering. Gays serve openly in military forces all over the world - why are our troops somehow less capable than ones in Israel or the UK? Answer - they aren't and we need to start treating them like the amazing and professional human beings they are.
ETA: Coming to grips with the apparent DADT contradiction. Thanks to
king_mob for the link and the insightful statement that "if this was some policy the bush doj didn't want to defend all that much, they wouldn't defend it, and they'd issue a press release saying "fuck you"."
Yep, this is exactly what I've been thinking all along. The Democrats constantly wuss out on issues when it's really important or go through 'proper channels' in the name of bipartisanship, while the Republicans just blow up the channels and make their own. I realize that it's a case of the Democrats not wanting to sink to the level of the Republicans and wanting to uphold the honor and pride of our government, but that ship's pretty well sailed. The Republicans are constantly setting fire to these bridges while the Democrats are building them and it's long past time for them to say, 'enough's, enough' and just get some stuff done with or without bipartisan support.
But they won't. And this shit will drag on for even more years while our troops suffer in silence.
