I've been writing again.  Not a lot, I've been reading more than writing, and the more I read, the more I realize that a lot of my sequel to "The Perfect Storm" is written - I just have to do bridgework.  Yes, I know I've said that before, but it's really true.

Cut for length and very minor spoilers for the sequel to "The Perfect Storm." )

Wish me luck.

Thank You!

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] heeroluva, [livejournal.com profile] fwmammd, and [livejournal.com profile] mahmfic for the pumpkin cookies!
Just a quick notice to let anyone who may need to know that I'll be out of town with limited internet access until 10/30.
As always, [livejournal.com profile] sparkindarkness has said everything far better than I ever could here.  Please read what he has to say.  Thank you.

FYI

Oct. 3rd, 2012 01:39 am
I'm going to be driving to my mom's later today and staying for an undetermined amount of time.  While I'm there, I'll only be able to access the internet via my phone.  I'll still be able to keep an eye on the various communities at which I'm a mod, but there will be little to no posting from me during that time.

I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this causes.

Thank you for your understanding.
Sadly, I can't link to it here because it has the person's real name attached, but there's a viral image on Facebook that is a screencap of the following status:

I caught my son walking home with the gay kid from across the street.  My hand and his butt are going to be sore for the rest of the night.

A friend re-posted the image with the following caption:

Complete parenting fail.  The best way to teach your children hate and bigotry is to violently abuse them.

As her name was on it (she has an uncommon name and the pictures matched), I sent her the following message with the picture attached:

I wanted you to know that your incredibly awful parenting has gone viral. Congratulations on teaching your son hate, bigotry, and fear through abuse. You are disgusting and should be ashamed of yourself.

She'll probably be able to get the image pulled if she reports it to Facebook, but for now I'm happy to see her publicly shamed for being an intolerant child abuser.  There's also a fan page that's been set up to bash her with the tag line, "Proud homophobe and child abuser."

If there's anyone out there thinking that I (or anyone else) shouldn't sink to her level by shaming her, bothering her with messages, or any other such rot, allow me to remind you that she's the one who hit her child because he walked home with a child who may or may not be gay.  If you're on her side in any way, shape, or form, your comments aren't welcome here.

Thank You!

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] fwmammd for the adorable panda!  It's very cute and really brightened my day, :).

Pick a number from the list and I'll answer it in the comments.

The Core

Aug. 28th, 2012 09:17 pm

ETA 9/13/15:  I got over it, :).  I had a mad urge to watch it recently and while I noticed the error (it's impossible not to), I was able to gloss over it and enjoy one of my favorite movies of all time.  Which brings me to something else - how the FUCK is this POS one of my favorite movies of all time?  I think it's the cast chemistry.   The movie does have an AMAZING cast who took this movie and absolutely ran with it, taking its incredibly silly premise 100% seriously the entire film and that helps a lot, :).

As some of you may or may not know, I really love disaster movies.  Always have since I was a kid.  I'll watch and enjoy any silly premise out there, from "Armageddon" to "Volcano," from "The Towering Inferno" to "The Poseidon Adventure," but the one that I've found holds a special place in my heart is "The Core."  I actually own two copies of it (pan and scan, purchased by accident, and widescreen) and have found myself watching it recently when it's been on cable.

Or why I can't enjoy a hot mess of a movie the way I used to anymore... )
Practicum - B (But I got 190/200 on the Final, :)).
Anatomy - B (The Final brought my grade down, sigh - 165/200)
Trigger Point - B (I totally got what I deserved, here, LOL.)
Spa Services - A (344.90/350 points possible in the class - the only time I've done better was Humanities Winter Quarter when with extra credit, I got 100%, heh.)
Board Review - A (I'm going to keep doing practice exams until I take the MBLEx, something that will hopefully happen soon, *fingers crossed*)

Spa Services hasn't been "officially" posted as a part of my GPA yet, but even without it, I'm squeaking by with a 3.5, something I was afraid would be blown because of the B's I've gotten recently.  So very happy right now, despite the fact that it'll be late October or early November before I'm actually licensed to practice because of the MBLEx and the insane amount of paperwork required to get a medical license in the state of Ohio.

I didn't go to graduation today, but it's just as well, as I'm having uterine pain, sigh.  The pelvic ultrasound is one week from today, but my symptoms are telling me what it's going to say.  The only queation is how I'll deal with it when the time comes.

Wish me luck!
I'm posting this from school, so I'm uncertain as to whether my power at home is back on.  However, according to AEP, it could take 5-7 days for the power to be back on in my area.  I'll have only limited access to the internet if the outage continues until Monday, as I must save the charge on my phone for emergencies.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to the communities I moderate.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Join us in standing up for reproductive health and education. Planned Parenthood, the organization that delivers reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of people worldwide, has come under fire in the U.S. lately, with many politicians on both state and federal level seeking to end funding (and in a few cases succeeding). During the month of May, you can send a specially designed Planned Parenthood vgift to your friends to help support this cause. (And if you need someone to send it to, [livejournal.com profile] frank is always happy to receive gifts!) There are three variations ($1, $5 and $10) for you to choose from, but they'd all look good on your profile when your friends know that you stand by something so important.

Spreading Romney has gotten off of the front page of Google.  Whatever your feelings on Dan Savage, the reason behind him starting this site is a just one - Mitt Romney shared this story about strapping his dog to the roof of his car as a way to "connect with the common man."

I don't want an animal abuser in the White House, how about you?  Anyone who is that cavalier about abusing animals won't give a crap about abusing humans, either.

Please share this far and wide.  Thank you for your support.

ETA:  Ann Romney used to illegally drug her dressage horse to get it to perform horse ballet.  It had an injury in the foot at the time of sale, and the vet determined from a drug screen that the horse was doped to the hilt with pain killers so it could perform.  (Added by [livejournal.com profile] lk737 - thanks for the info!)

Dear UK Flisters,

I know I'm preaching to the choir with you guys when it comes to LGBT equality, but believing something is fair and actually getting off your bum and doing something about it doesn't always follow like it should. So here's a little (and slightly preachy) reminder!!

Three things I'd like you all to do before you go to bed tonight (if you haven't already)

1/ Go here and sign the C4EM's petition for marriage equality. This is the simplest and probably most visible way to show your support. It currently has 60,000 signatures -- the petition against (by C4M) has over 500,000!!!

2/ Go here and fill out the government's consultation. It might take a little bit longer, but you can bet that for every pro-person who doesn't find the time, there will be dozens of 'anti' people who will.

3/ Email your MP. There's a handy template there for you to use so you don't even have to think of what to say. Also, you can go here to see where your MP stands on the issue. A hugely important thing to do because the majority of MPs will be voting with their conscience rather than following the party line, so make sure you let yours know your feelings.

4/ Okay, so I lied. There's actually a fourth thing. And that is simply spread the word. The consultation ends in two day - it's our last chance to get as many people mobilised as possible. So tweet it, Facebook, blog it, beat your friends and family around the head with it until they give in!!! And if you want to repost to your own journal (and please feel free to edit), here's an ever-so helpful button

Re-posting because I feel this is important and because now there's less than a week left to buy one, if you are so inclined.
